Between the 26-27 October 2018, at the initiative of the “Dunrea de Jos”
University of Galai, the Association of Scientific Researchers in the field of
International and European Law (Italy) and the “Acad. Andrei Rdulescu” Legal
Research Institute of the Romanian Academy, at the headquarters of the “Ugo

colloquium “Romania and Italy. The common culture of the memory of the past
100 years. Memory and identity in the Romanian-Italian dialogue: symbolic spaces,
legal, historical and philosophical issues”; the event was dedicated to the
Centenary of the Great Union of 1918 – the most important historic moment of the
Romanian people. In the scientific papers and interventions held on the occasion,
various important aspects of the Romanian-Italian relations were approached.
Academics, researches, lawyers, representatives of universities, research
institutes, and cultural foundations from Romania, Italy, and the Republic of
Moldova have approached historical, legal and philosophical issues of common
politics, such as: national issues spanning from the Revolution of 1848 to the Paris
Peace Conference (1919-1920), the unfolding and the consequences of the First
World War, cultural and political relations between Romanian and Italy in the
interwar period, national and international law issues, legal, scientific and cultural
convergences between Romania and Italy in the past century.
The cultural and scientific dialogue thus inaugurated has been continued in
the days of 22 and 23 of November 2018, in Galai, where certain aspects were
treated in depth. On the occasion, there were several new aspects added and new
future perspectives were opened, thus the meeting marking and important
moment in the collaboration of the specialists – historians, philosophers and jurist
– of the both countries, in deepening the problematics of national identity, and also
of memory and common development in Europe and world-wide.
