Abstract: Tourism is an extremely complex and sophisticated field, therefore

it r equires coo rdination and cooper ation, a spects that only the public

administratio n, through its institutions, has the a uthority and the mechanisms

to org anize. In order to have a coherent, unitar y and efficient evolution, this

domain needs a pro per institutional frame for functioning and organization.

The study is treating the organizationa l fo rms and ways during the years in the

organ iza tional structur es of Romanian tourism administra tion. The paper is

presenting the history of tourism administration, ha vin g as a guiding mar k the

institutional typology, per iods of time and their organizational frame. The

ana lysis of Romanian tour ism administration histor y led us to accomplishing

the typology of national bodies in Romania and their ranking in time.

1. Introduction

Tourism is an extremely complex and

sophisticated industry, which includes and

interconnects sectors and fields of different

industries from all over the world. This is

the reason why tourism needs coordination

and cooperation, aspects that only the

public administration, through its

institutions, has the authority and the

mechanisms to organize.

As any other activity field, tourism, in

order to have a coherent unitary and

efficient evolution, needs a proper

institutional frame for functioning and

organization.

2. Organizational and Historical Frame

of Romanian Tourism

The first trials, in our country, for

organizing touristic activities were found in

the 19th century, when several associations,

organizations, societies, clubs etc. had

private initiatives.

Among companies with touristic activity

we can mention: Romanian Society of

Geography (Societatea Român de

Geografie) (1875), The Carpathian Society

of Sinaia (Societatea Carpatina din Sinaia)

(1895), The Romanian Tourist Society

(Societatea Turiştilor Români) (1903-

1916). Among the pioneering tourism

associations we can mention: The Alpine

Association of Transylvania, from Brasov –
